Colorado State Square Dance Association represents all square dance club councils in Colorado.
Colorado West Area Square Dance Council is an organization representing the Square Dance Clubs in the western half of Colorado.
Denver Area Square and Round Dance Council respresents square dance clubs in the Denver area and nearby mountain regions of Colorado.
Dance lessons are taught by teachers (callers and cuers) and are usually sponsored by one or more dance clubs. Typical duration is one or two nights per week for a period of 3-4 months. Students learn basic footwork, ettiquette and figure definitions. Upon completion of lessons, students are encouraged to attend regular square and/or round dances.
For both square and round dance, there are many levels of dancers from beginning to advanced. Lessons are usually grouped into a category that describes the level of dance being taught, example: Beginner Lessons or Intermediate Lessons.

North East Colorado Square Dance Council represents square dance clubs in the north eastern regions of Colorado.
Round Dance is choregraphed ballroom dancing with 2 people (1 couple) arranged in circle around a hall. Dancers are prompted by a cuer to execute steps or figures in time with music. Social Round Dancing is organized with standard figure definitions. There are typically many couples in one or more circles all executing figures at the same time.

Dancers are prompted by a caller to execute steps or figures in time with music. Modern Square Dance is organized with standard calls and figure definitions that evolved from Traditional Square Dance. There are typically many squares at a square dance.
