This holiday is observed & celebrated on November 29, every year. September is National Square Dance Month! National Square Dancing Day exists to celebrate the square dance form of folk dancing, and is a great excuse to get out and “Dosey Do”. This fun, healthy and simple form of dance with a long history definitely deserves a holiday all of its own, and it has one!
September is National Square Dance Month! National Square Day is observed & celebrated on November 29, every year. The traditional square dance known widely across the United States has its roots in 17th and 18th century Europe.
The purpose of Heritage Dancers is to promote awareness in the public of the historic and artistic value of square dancing, the folk dance which is truly American in origin. Further, to demonstrate through educational exhibitions and entertainment the unique place which square dancing holds in our national culture.
The Colorado Rocky Mountain Dancers (CRMD) was formed in 1999 to represent Lloyd Shaw's Cheyenne Mountain Dancers in a historical pageant to be presented at the 50th National Square Dance Convention in 2001. We prepared, but the pageant was cancelled. Instead we took our material and performed it in the exhibition hall at the National Square Dance Convention in Anaheim, CA. Since then, we have performed at seven National Square Dance Conventions, many other local, regional and national venues and in 2004 we represented the United States at 3 international festivals in Ukraine.

The act is exactly what it sounds like. Four seated couples maneuver vintage tractors into daisy chains and do-si-dos in front of a live audience. It would be hard to squeeze more nostalgia into a performance that combines made-in-America machines with our “National Folk Dance.”
