2018 Festival FAQ's



When & Where will the Festival be held?
The next Colorado State Square Dance Festival will be held at the Crowne Plaza DIA Hotel & Convention Center, 1550 East 40th Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80239. The weekend event is June 8 to 10, 2018. The site is
North of I-70 just east of Chambers Road. The dance halls are adjacent to each other. Register as early as you can to help us finance and plan the best festival experience for everyone.

Is there more than one Crowne Plaza in Denver?
Yes. Be sure to book your room at Crowne Plaza DIA Hotel & Convention Center not Crowne Plaza Hotel Denver. Our hotel and dance halls are at I-70 & Chambers Road not downtown.

About Hotel Reservations

We have negotiated rates and reserved rooms for the festival at $112 per night. When making reservations online without breakfast, use group code "SQD".  For breakfast with your room use group code "SDB".
Breakfast cost $10 for 1 or 2 people or $20 for 3 or 4 people.
Hotel reservations at our group rate must be made by May 15, 2018.  When booking online use our group code or call the hotel at (303) 371-9494.  Mention "Colorado Square Dance" to obtain the group rate.  Hotel room nights help pay for our dance halls.

Hotel policy provides for no charges to your credit card until 4 PM the day of your arrival.  You can cancel without charge until that time.  After 4 PM you will be charged the first night even if you never check in.

The hotel is starting to charge for parking and Wi-Fi.  Please check you hotel invoice when you check in.  Our contract with the hotel guarantees free parking and free Wi-Fi for festival attendees.


When is the hotel $112.00 group room rate available?
The hotel offers our $112.00 guaranteed room rate from Thursday before the festival through Sunday night after the festival. Reserve your room by May 15. Let the hotel know you are a square dancer.

Are other hotels available nearby?
There are many other hotels within walking distance or a short drive but it’s so nice to go up to your room in the Crowne Plaza DIA and take a break or relax in the pool between dances.

What will we be dancing on?
Your 2018 Festival Committee will have dance flooring installed over the existing carpeting in all dance areas
for the best dancing experience. Please plan to wear appropriate dance shoes.

What is the dance schedule?
Detailed planning of festival events is ongoing. Early registrations help us plan the best festival for everyone.
We will post the most up to date information on our website, http://ColoradoSquareDanceFestival.com. A
detailed program booklet will be in your registration packet when you arrive at the festival.

Will there be a trail-in dance?
A trail-in dance is being planned for 7:00 pm Thursday evening. The trail-in dance will feature Bear Miller,
Roger Schappell, Jeff Palmer and Pat McBride. The trail-in dance is not included in your festival registration
package. Dance receipts for the trail-in dance are property of the callers.

Can I attend the festival for a single night or a single day?
Yes, Friday-Only registration that doesn’t include the banquet is available for $35. The $60 Saturday-Only
registration includes the banquet. Enjoy a weekend of dancing, celebrate and enjoy a banquet with your friends.

What will be at the door registration cost?
Adults - $80
Youth - $55
New Dancer - $55
Saturday Only - $60
Friday Only (No Banquet) - $35
Banquet Only (non-dancer) - $30
If you register after May 31st  2018 your banquet entrée choices may be limited.
Registration must order all banquet meals with the hotel chef on June 1st .  Registration
may have a few unclaimed entrées for the banquet but these will go fast.  There will be
no refunds if your entrée selection for the Saturday Banquet is not available when you
register for the festival after May 31st .


What is the Saturday Banquet?
The Saturday Banquet is a sit down full service 3-course dinner. You will be served at tables for eight
according to the selections you make when you register for the festival.
Entrée selections are:
   Pan Seared Salmon with a white wine cream sauce
   London Broil Marinated Sirloin Tri Tip with a Mushroom Demi-Glace
   Chicken Scaloppini with Mushrooms, sundried Tomatoes, Capers and white wine sauce
   Chef’s Choice Vegetarian
We hope you will enjoy relaxing and having dinner with your dancing friends. There will be an awards
ceremony during the Banquet.

What if I have dietary restrictions?
The hotel chef will accommodate dietary restrictions at the Saturday Banquet. This includes gluten free, dairy
free and/or any other dietary limitations. When you register for the festival let us know your needs so we can
inform the hotel chef.

Can I opt not to attend the Saturday Banquet?
Yes. You may choose not to attend but your registration fee includes the banquet. The festival will order meals
for all Saturday registered dancers a week before the festival. The cost of the banquet is not refundable. The
banquet is part of our contract with the hotel without which we would have to pay more than $10,000 for our
dance halls.


What about meals other than the Banquet?

The hotel has an excellent restaurant, The Terrace Restaurant. Ask the hotel about breakfast specials when you
book your room or check in. There are many other restaurants from fast food to fine dining nearby, many within
easy walking distance.


How can solo/single dancers connect with each other at the Festival?

Single dancers attending the Festival are invited to attend the following event:
Friday, June 8, 12:30 - 1:30PM The Free No-Eat Meet & Greet.

Congregate in ballroom A or B ( exact location TBA ) to meet your fellow singles/solos. This is an opportunity to socialize and arrange for some dances/tips with others who are seeking partners for any portion of the Festival.

When and where is the Fashion Show?
The fashion show will be held in the Hotel Atrium at the waterfall starting at 1 pm, Saturday, June 9th.

When & where is the Showcase of Ideas?
The Showcase Of Ideas and a History Corner will be available in the Frisco Room during the festival.

What seminars are being planned?
Gary Shoemake, our featured caller, and several others will present seminars at the festival. Your festival program
will have details.

Are RV spaces available at the festival site?
Yes, approximately 20 onsite dry camping RV sites are available for the festival. Reservations must be made with Ron and Debbie Amsberry at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 303-475-6107 and pay the Hotel upon arrival.  The hotel is charging $25.00 per night with a two night minimum. Please mark your registration form to indicate RV camping so Ron & Debbie Amsberry can contact you if other RV camping alternatives are needed.

Are RV hookups available?
No electric, water or sewer services are available at the hotel site.

Are other RV camping sites nearby?
Yes, but not within walking distance. The Amsberrys can give you alternatives for RV Camping. Mark your
registration form, “will RV camp”. We will send you information about on-site camping and other RV parks.
RV camping is not included in festival registrations.
